In a bid to provide better nutrition to children up to six years of age, Haryana Government on Monday decided to set up an automatic ‘panjiri’ plant at Gurgaon at a cost of `22 crore and upgrade the ‘panjiri’ plant already functional at Gharaunda, as a part of Golden Jubilee celebrations of Haryana. Women and Child Development Minister, Kavita Jain, said that approval to this effect has been given by Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar lal.

She said that with the upgradation of ‘panjiri’ plant at Gharaunda, district Karnal, its production would be doubled. She said that ‘panjiri’ produced in all plants in the State would be fortified with micro nutrients so that nutritional status of children could be improved.

Jain said that the Department was distributing ‘panjiri’ among children aged between six and 18 months under the Integrated Child Development Scheme. It was now planning to distribute ‘panjiri’ produced in its plants among severely underweight children and those aged between six and 18 months and three and six years, she added.
