Following the failure of the State police to handle the Jat quota agitation in February last, Haryana Government has constituted a five-member committee to study the recommendations for reforms in Police Department as given in the report of retired IPS Parkash Singh Committee.
The Manohar lal Khattar Government in Haryana, which was accused of going soft on the senior officials indicted in the Parkash Singh Committee’ report, has formed the panel under Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Revenue Department, Keshni Anand Arora. The Committee comprises as members ACS Home, Ram Niwas, ACS Development and Panchayats Department, Navraj Singh Sandhu, Principal Secretary Higher Education Department, Mahavir Singh and Secretary, Chief Secretary Office Neerja Sekhar.
While talking to the mediapersons, ACS Home, Ram Niwas said that the committee held its first meeting on Thursday, during which discussion was held on several aspects. It will submit its report in three months, said he.
Replying to a question about action being taken by the State Government against erring officers during Jat agitation, he said that two officers had been chargesheeted, and erring officers would not be spared.
All erring officers have filed their replies, which are being analyzed by the government and action would be taken accordingly, he said.
Notably, retired DGP Parkash Singh who was entrusted with the responsibility of probing the causes of Jat agitation and lapses in curbing the violence, in his report had castigated the officers at the helm of affairs who wilfully let the agitation flare up.
In his first report submitted to the Haryana Government on May 13 last year, he had indicted about 90 police and administrative officers for their “failure to act”.
The State Government had later asked Prakash Singh to stop working on his second report on police reforms in the state and had decided to examine the recommendations related to internal security given in his first report.
The Jat agitation in February last year had led to the deaths of 30 people, injured more than 300 and resulted in loss of public and government property amounting to crores of rupees in Haryana.
