Demanding regularisation of jobs, the guest teachers of Haryana on Wednesday boycotted their classes across the State.Giving a jolt to the State Government, more than 12,000 guest teachers of Haryana stayed away from attending the schools, hampering teaching. Irked over the ‘non-committal’ attitude of the Government towards their demands, the guest teachers also protested in front of houses of BJP MPs and MlAs on Wednesday.Dharambir Kaushik, spokesperson of Haryana Guest Teachers’ Association, while talking to The Pioneer, said that protesting against the State Government, more than 12,000 guest teachers did not attend the schools on Wednesday and would continue to do so if their demands were not met.Protests were also held in front of houses of BJP MPs and MlAs, he added.
The guest teachers, who have been issued termination letter by the State Government, are also holding fast-unto-death since June 23 at Mahendergarh, the home district of Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma. The protesting teachers, including women, are camping at Devi lal Park and have threatened to continue their agitation till jobs were restored.Commenting on the teachers’ recruitment policy announcement by the State Government a day before, Dharambir Kaushik said that more than 4,000 guest teachers whose services have been terminated are not eligible to apply for the new jobs advertised by the Government. Also, the HGTA demands that the criteria of job selection should remain same like 2005, under which we all were recruited.
With the change in recruitment policy, the guest teachers will definitely suffer, he added. The guest teachers have been adopting all kind of measures lately to build pressure on the Haryana Government to deliver on its poll promise of regularising the services of more than 15,000 such teachers in the State.Meanwhile, Chief Minister Manohar lal on Wednesday said the State Government has fixed new criteria for recruitment as per which interview will carry only 12 per cent marks to remove scope of discretion and to ensure only meritorious candidates are selected.
