The family members of Harpreet Singh Sodhi, who died in an accident caused due to stray cattle, met UT Administrator Shivraj Singh Patil on Monday requesting a job for his widow Gurpreet Kaur.
The family members gave the representation to the Administrator during the Public Hearing Session seeking a job on compassionate grounds. Regarding the matter, Patil said that whatever help possible, will be provided.
Harpreet Singh Sodhi, 33, a resident of Sector 45 had died in a road accident after his bike rammed into a stray cattle on April 6.
The family had demanded compensation and a Government job for the widow of Harpreet and MCC councillors had also assured of support to the family.
In the last house meeting of MCC, 35 house members gave Rs5,000 each from their salaries to donate to late Harpreet Singh’s family.
Meanwhile, only four complainants turned up for the Public Hearing Session on Monday. Another complainant, Mahesh Sharma, President Pragati Market Welfare Association requested for development and maintenance of the Pragati Market Sector-23 here.
To this, Patil said that such property is meant to be given on lease only and the association cannot be given the ownership of it.
The next complainant, Satish Chandra Sharma, chairman Group Housing Cooperative Societies Welfare Council requested that the basic services may be provided to the residents of the group housing cooperative societies spread over Sectors 48, 49, 50 and 51 in Chandigarh.
To this the concerned UT official informed that the deed letter clearly mentions that the external services will be provided by the UT Engineering Department, which have already been provided and that arrangement for the internal services will be done by the society itself.
The last representation was from a delegation from village Kansal who requested Patil to kindly see that the recently announced eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) may not affect their village Naya Gaon.
On this, Patil said the work on creating ESZ is in process and the same would be done according to the rules.
