The teams from Snapdeal and Flipkart are present at the Surajkund Mela for assisting artisans and craftspersons and helping them to register as sellers with their respective online portals.

Managing Director, Haryana Tourism Corporation and Chief Administrator, Surajkund Mela Authority, Sumita Misra said that keeping pace with the advancement in Information Technology, Surajkund Mela Authority and Haryana Tourism have undertaken this novel initiative.

She said that the main aim of Surajkund International Crafts Mela was to provide direct market access to craftspersons, which come from distant parts of the country. Through online shopping portal platform, the craftspersons would get access to the market round the year to sell their handmade and natural products.

She said that Surajkund International Crafts Mela is the largest crafts fair in the world that offers an ideal platform for national and state awardee craftspersons, weavers and artists to showcase their talent. The idea of hosting the Mela is to identify, nurture and preserve the heritage crafts of the country and to promote the pool of skilled artisans, who use indigenous technology, but were suffering due to the cheaper machine-made imitations.

The Managing Director added that a special area has been earmarked for the display of heritage crafts. After stepping inside this area, one is elated to see the unique crafts and the way they are made.
