Now, no need of affidavit for services in Chandigarh

The city residents will not have to run from pillar to post to avail basic services as the UT administration has decided to discontinue the requirement of affidavit for various services here.

With a view to simplify delivery of services to citizens, the UT Administration on Wednesday discontinued the requirement of affidavit for various services.

Mohd Shayin, UT Deputy Commissioner-cum-Estate Officer said that now, the owners/allottees of sites/buildings in Chandigarh are not required to furnish affidavit in support of their contention for the services relating to UT Estate Office. These services include allotment of sites, transfer of sites/buildings on the basis of ‘sale deed’, ‘intestate death’, ‘will’ etc; grant of NOC; permission to mortgage and sanction of building plans.

Balbir Singh, UT Assistant Estate Officer said that in place of affidavit, the applicants will now have to simply furnish a self declaration on plain paper. However, the applicant would be required to affix his latest photograph duly crossed signature at the bottom of the declaration.

He said that the discontinuation of requirement of affidavit will not only save the applicants from harassment for getting the same attested from notary/executive magistrate but also save money.

Until now, to avail basic services from Government departments, one had to submit affidavits attested by notaries or magistrates.

The provision of self-certification by the applicant is citizen-friendly and obtaining either an attested copy or affidavit besides expenditure demands significant time during working hours.
