Now, farmers to get not less than `250 as relief!

Months after Haryana Government faced an embarrassment for issuing cheques to farmers for as little as `2 and `3 as compensation to farmers for crop damage, a course correction has been made.

The Government on Friday decided that any farmer whose crops have been damaged due to any natural calamity, would now get not less than `250 as relief.

Earlier when cheques of `2 were issued to the farmers as compensation, the main Opposition Indian National lok Dal had raised the issue saying it was a cruel joke with the farmers.

An official spokesman on Friday said that the extra financial burden on this account would be met out of the State budget. He said that all the Deputy Commissioners in the State have been asked to ensure that while calculating relief, each farmer whose crops have been damaged due any calamity should get at least `250 as relief.

Apart from this, they would also ensure that the total compensation awarded to a farmer should be clubbed together, so that he could be paid for the damage on his total holdings through one cheque.
