Nishu Mahajan

After the recent incidents of communal clashes in two villages of Haryana, it appears there is no fear of law and order machinery. And, the situation is turning dangerous in the State, These were the remarks of National Commission for Minorities (NCM) after its team visited Tikri Brahman village in Haryana’s Palwal

district following Sunday’s communal clashes.

“After second incident of communal violence in Atali village of Faridabad district last week, the state witnessed another incident of communal clash at Tikri Brahman village in Palwal. Given the situation, it appears that there is no fear of government machinery in the state,” said Naseem Ahmad, chairperson of NCM while talking to The Pioneer over the phone from New Delhi.

Such incidents can have far-reaching adverse effects. The situation is now becoming dangerous in the state, said he after the NCM team headed by him visited Tikri Brahman village to review the situation on Thursday.

During the visit to Tikri Brahman village, the NCM team held meetings with people of both communities which had clashed on Sunday and urged them to resolve the issue.

Naseem Ahmad said that there is a huge trust deficit building up between Hindu and Muslim community in the village and the NCM has requested elders from both communities to resolve their issues. Besides, IGP Rewari range has been directed to expedite the inquiry into the incident and SIT constituted should submit its report at the earliest, he added.

At present, there is heavy deployment of Police personnel to restore peace in the riot-hit village and the peaceful condition is seemingly enforced, said he.

The NCM chairperson added, “After the visit, the team is now preparing its report and will submit it to Union Ministry and State Government. As per our observations, 12 houses of Muslims were burnt and the community has suffered huge losses in the clash. We have asked the district authorities to prepare a report of losses suffered by Muslims in the clash and initiate the process of providing compensation soon,” said he.

Barely 30 kilometres from Atali village which had witnessed two separate incidents of communal clashes in past two months, Tikri Brahman village in Palwal witnessed communal strife which left more than 40 people injured on Sunday.

Police has admitted that the charged atmosphere in these Jat-dominated villages is a cause of concern after the clashes.

As per the reports, an argument between youths over throwing water on a girl of majority community at a tubewell escalated into a clash, resulting in stone pelting. Vehicles and houses were damaged during the clash in Tikri Brahman village.

Following various incidents of communal clashes in the state, the BJP led Haryana Government has attracted sharp criticism from the opposition parties which are accusing the ruling BJP for allowing communal situation in the state to flare up resulting in fresh clashes and injuries to people.

Notably, after the May 25 incident of violence, the riot-hit Atali village had once again flared up last week after people of two communities pelted stones at each other.

On this issue, the NCM had shot off a letter to the Union Home Ministry expressing apprehensions over the volatile situation that may spread to other areas in the state.

The NCM team had also visited Atali village and in its report sent to the Home Ministry had accused Haryana police of abetting the May 25 attackers, who burnt down about 20 Muslim homes in Atali, leaving two dozen injured and prompting more than 300 people to flee the village.
