New IGP takes over four crime-stricken districts

It would not be an easy task for new Inspector General of Police (IGP) to check rising crime graph in four districts- Rohtak, Jhajjar, Sonepat and Panipat- that falls under the Rohtak police range, which has apparently become the favourite ‘hunting ground’ for criminals.

Apart from heinous crime like murder, gangrape, loot and robbery, chain snatching and burglary have become order of the day here on which the IGP would have to pay special attention as a sharp rise in such crimes is not only creating panic among the citizens but bringing shame to the police as well.

Though the police have cracked the sensational Gohana Bank heist case wherein robbers had looted jewellery and cash worth crores breaking open 89 lockers after digging a 125-foot-long and 2.5-foot-wide tunnel to the PNB’s strong room in a Bollywood style, the happening has put a serious question mark over the efficiency of Hayana Police.

Notably, the State Government has recently replaced Rohtak IGP, Anil Rao, with Alok Roy who had been serving as IGP (Crime) at the State Police headquarters in Panchkula. Rao has been shifted to Hisar Police Range.

Besides putting a check on chain snatching, loot and robbery in the range, Alok Roy will have to chalk out special strategies for nabbing most wanted criminals of all the four districts whose number is more than half of the total tally of such criminals in the state.

As per official website of Haryana Police, as many as 239 hardcore criminals have figured in the tally and 154 criminals among them belong to lone Rohtak Range.

“There are 56 most wanted criminals registered in the record of Sonepat police followed by Rohtak with 33 while Jhajjar and Panipat have 23 and 12 such criminals respectively. Many of them are dreaded ones against whom several cases of heinous crime have been registered,” said the police.

likewise, 854 proclaimed offenders (POs) of Rohtak, Jhajjar, Sonepat and Panipat districts are also out of bounds of Haryana Police.
