While the BJP-led Haryana Government celebrated the first anniversary of demonetisation as anti-black money day, the Congress, on the other hand, observed the day as ‘black day’.
The Congress workers held protests in various parts of Haryana against the Narendra Modi led Central Government on Wednesday.
Kiran Choudhry, leader of the Haryana Congress legislature Party said that demonitisation will go down in the history of India as a rank bad decision that snuffed out close to 100 lives waiting in unending queues outside banks, wrecked the economy, slammed the doors shut on lakhs of small units, deprived millions of their jobs, cost the country trillions of manhours, and still had the BJP brass gloat over it as a bold move.
The former Excise and Taxation Minister alleged that the illogical and ill-considered move aimed at squeezing out black money from the economy failed miserably. It was like Narendra Modi, taking out a cannon to swat a fly on the tea table, she said.
The Congress leader said, “Worse still, the badly planned move marked by many a flip-flop which has no parallel in democratic world — except war-hit Germany where in totally different milieus, old currency was replaced with new after the collapse of the Nazi rule — failed to deliver on all the three objectives listed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his November 8, 2016 address to the nation. Black was allowed to turn white, counterfeit currency entered bank accounts, and terrorism grew, Choudhry said.
She said demonitisation not only reflected poor understanding of economic matters by the BJP Govt but also cost the PM who went back on his word to the people many times.
“The people will never forget and forgive him and the BJP for the economic ruin it spelled and savaged their lives. What is being touted as economic success has turned out to be an economic disaster,” she added.
