Punjab State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation limited, popularly known as Markfed, has put the export of 62 eatable products in the country as well as to the various countries in the world on a fast track. As a renowned cooperative of Asia, Markfed clocks `12,000 crore annually, said Markfed’s spokesperson.
The spokesperson said that Markfed has been exporting basmati rice, Saron da Saag and packed vegetables, achaar (pickles) and murabba, khuban etc under ‘Sohana’ brand name.
“2,000 metric tonne capacity Honey Industry is being established at Jalandhar soon and will start its operation by February 2016,” he said. He said that Markfed is a pro-farmer institution which is procuring wheat and paddy from farmers along with leading supplier of DAP fertilizer, high quality agro chemical, animal feed, eatable oil and daily use eatable items in the State.
“Markfed has supplied 1.76 lakh metric DAP fertilizer to the cooperative societies so that farmers could be saved from any kind of harassment in the hands of middlemen. Fertilizers are available at co-operative societies for sowing of wheat during the current season, he said.
Spokesperson appealed to the farmers that they may use Markfed pesticides for the protection of their crops.
