PNS

The Manohar lal Khattar Government has decided to rehabilitate the 254 victim families of tragic Mirchpur incident that took place about eight years back in Hisar.

The victim families will get their homes in the area of over eight acres of land at village Dhandoor in Hisar from June 1 onwards.

This was announced by Haryana Minister of State for Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes, Krishan Kumar Bedi after holding a meeting with a delegation of Mirchpur village here.

The delegation had called on him to express their gratitude for taking decision to rehabilitate the migrated families of Mirchpur.

Bedi, while talking to the mediapersons said that one acre additional land would also be made available for Community Centre, Primary School and Mandir Khera among other facilities Financial assistance for construction of houses would also be given to them under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna.

During the Mirchpur incident, a group of villagers belonging to upper caste had torched over a dozen houses belonging to dalits on April 21, 2010 in which a 17-year-old polio-stricken girl Suman and her aged father Tara Chand were charred to death. Following this, many families had to migrate from the village for their safety.

The Minister said that the Chief Minister Manohar lal had on January 1 last year announced to rehabilitate these families.

The tragic Mirchpur incident had happened in 2010 and the victim families were forced to migrate to other places and  to wander for eight years due to negligence of the then Congress Government, he added.

In reply to a question, Bedi said that 254 victim families, who had to migrate after the incident, would be rehabilitated on about eight acres of land at village Dhandoor from June 1.

land equal to Mirchpur would be given to these families at Dhandoor. However, the Government had given them alternate areas of Municipal Corporation Hisar, Municipal Committee Barwala, Uklana and Municipal Council Hansi for selecting their place of rehabilitation, but they expressed their desire to settle at Dhandhoor, said the Minister.

He further said that there is no difference between words and works of the Chief Minister.

Mirchpur incident had become a national issue during the regime of previous Government.

But unfortunately victim families were left in lurch due to lack of will power of previous regime. Taking a strict note on this issue, the Chief Minister had entrusted this responsibility and we have fulfilled it, the Minister added.

75 CRPF personnel were deployed in the village after the incident, which were withdrawn in 2016.

The Mirchpur incident was a reflection of longstanding and deep-rooted acrimony between dalits, considered as the lower caste and Jats, considered as upper caste in Haryana.
