A 38-year-old man who posed as an Additional Collector was arrested from Jashpur and brought here on Friday for cheating people of Rs 23.65 lakh after promising them government jobs in Chhattisgarh, the police said.

Raipur Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal said Mojahid Anwar alias MD alias Anand Kishore Tirkey was a resident of Surguja district.

A village sarpanch in Jashpur, Sarveshwar Sai Paikra, lodged a cheating case against him in September 2020.

In April 2020, Tirkey, who posed as an Additional Collector, made a phone call to Paikra and promised him a government job as there will be direct recruitment on 1,380 posts of data entry operators, clerks, peons and driver in Ambikapur, Balrampur, Surguja and Jashpur districts.

The accused told Paikra that he will fix jobs for his relatives and friends too.

Tirkey took a total of Rs 23.65 lakhs from Paikra between July 2020 and September 2020 in Raipur by promising to secure a government job for all of them.

Police brought him to Raipur from Jashpur Jail. He was arrested recently in the same case in Jashpur.
