It may sound astonishing but it is true that a man, who was declared ‘dead’ in official records over nine years ago, has been taking rounds of Government offices to prove himself ‘alive’. His vote was also deleted on the basis of the record. Since then he has been deprived of his right to vote despite being alive.

The 38-year-old Vinod Panchal, a resident of Aasodha Todran village, located on the boarder of Delhi and Haryana, said that he had received an official letter signed by Bahadurgarh SDM through post in September, 2004 wherein he was declared ‘dead’. “Initially, I and my family members were shocked to read the letter but did not take it seriously while considering it as just a joke by someone but now I have realized that it was a conspiracy,” said the man, a Security Guard in HSIIDC here, adding that the conspiracy should be exposed as he was deprived of his right to vote for last over 9 years.

Even though he went to polling booth to exercise franchise in the last two assembly polls held in 2005 and 2009 but had to return without voting due to deletion of his name from the electoral rolls. However, both the times after the elections he had applied for getting his voting right restored but to no avail, said Vinod.

Vinod informed he had now lodged a complaint to Bahadurgarh SDM office seeking probe into the matter so as to rectify the official record and to punish the official concern who had declared him dead on the basis of a survey. “How could anyone declare me dead as I am very much aliveIJ” asked the man while cursing the authorities. He maintained that the SDM had assured him of getting the probe initiated soon and to take stern action against the erring official.
