Adopting a novel approach towards honouring the teaching community, Punjab Education Department has decided to award ‘lifetime Achievement’ award to two teachers this time.
Under the initiative aimed at encouraging teachers to do even better, one teacher each from male and female categories would be selected and presented with the award at State function of ‘Teachers Day’ on September 5. The award would include prize money of Rs 1 lakh in each category, announced Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema.
He said that it has also been decided to increase the prize money of ‘State Awards’ from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000.
Cheema said that the role of a teacher assumes paramount significance in the noble profession of teaching. “A society is truly considered a progressive one if it honours its teachers which explains the starting of ‘lifetime achievement’ awards for the teachers whether serving or retired as a mark of respect to their yeoman’s services rendered,” he said.
