Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief, lalu Prasad Yadav, is lobbying hard with the Congress leaders to obtain party ticket for his son-in-law, Chiranjeev Rao, from Gurgaon lok Sabha seat.
Chiranjeev Rao, a former president of Haryana Pradesh Youth Congress, is the son of Haryana Power Minister and local Congress legislator, Ajay Yadav.
Sources in the Congress said lalu Prasad had talked to Congress general secretary and Haryana affairs in-charge, Shakeel Ahmad, and advocated the Congress ticket for his son-in-law from Gurgaon.
Besides Shakeel, the RJD chief has also approached other influential Congress leaders who may turn out to be instrumental in clearing the hurdles in the way of ticket for his son-in-law. That’s why Chiranjeev Rao seems to be hopeful for the party ticket. Notably, RJD is the alliance partner of Congress in Bihar.
Yadav said, “Chiranjeev has actively been participating in political and social activities in this region for the past few years and constantly connecting with people through public campaigns which make his claim for party ticket stronger,” said Yadav.
Congress, which has already announced its candidates on seven of 10 lok Sabha seats in the state, faces a tough task of finalising the party ticket from Gurgaon as two ministers, a CPS and a MlA are staking claim for the same.
Haryana Transport Minister Aftab Ahmad, Health Minister Rao Narender, Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) Rao Daan Singh and Badshahpur MlA Rao Dharampal are in the race of the party apart from Chiranjeev Rao.
Indian National lok Dal (INlD) has fielded its MlA from Nangal Choudhary, Rao Bahadur Singh, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has pitted its senior leader Yogendra Yadav while BJP is all set to announce sitting MP Rao Inderjit as its nominee from Gurgaon.
