Khattar to meet BJP MlAs today to address grievances

Nishu Mahajan

After being criticised by his own party MlAs for the past few months over the slow pace of development works in the State, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal will meet the party MlAs at the BJP’s legislature party meeting convened on Wednesday in an attempt to pacify the warring party members besides chalking out an action plan to rejuvenate the party.

The BJP MlAs meeting has been convened just days before the party’s national president Amit Shah’s visit to Chandigarh on May 20. Shah is also scheduled to visit Haryana for three days in the first week of July to connect with the party cadre and voters ahead of general elections 2019.

Amid the infighting within the party, the State party legislature meeting has been cancelled twice in the past.

While appeasing over a dozen dissenting MlAs is likely to be Chief Minister’s main agenda during the meeting, the party would also chalk out plan to take forward government’s flagging reform agenda in Haryana

Even as the Chief Minister has time and again denied existence of any discontent or groupism, among the party MlAs, the dissident MlAs have continued issuing statements against Manohar lal at various public forums.

The  infighting and voice of dissent within the state party unit has also dented the image of BJP led Haryana Government, which is already under attack from the opposition on the rising crime rate, corruption, pending CM’s announcements among others issues.

Over a dozen “rebel” MlAs will attend the party legislature meeting on Wednesday, which is also likely to be attended by BJP incharge for Haryana affairs, Anil Jain.

Gurugram BJP MlA, Umesh Aggarwal while talking to The Pioneer said that he along with other MlAs would attend the meeting.

On factionalism within the party, Aggarwal, who is among over a dozen rebel BJP MlAs, said that those are old things and he would attend the meeting to raise various issues.

When asked whether their grievances have been resolved, Aggarwal said that not all issues had been resolved but they were hopeful.

The Gurugram MlA was unhappy with the Haryana Government following the registration of a fraud case against his family members. Aggarwal had in the past questioned the State Government on a number of issues including Gwal Pahari, pending CM announcements and change in Gurugram master plan.

In the past two months, a series of meetings have also been convened by the party central leadership to end the rebel trouble in Haryana BJP unit.

Meanwhile, the BJP legislature meeting would also chalk out strategy to counter the allegations of the opposition on the rising crime rate and corruption in the state.

Following the gang-rape cases in Gurugram and Rohtak, the State Government is under fire from the opposition -INlD and Congress. Both the opposition parties have planned to launch a campaign against the ruling BJP for its failure to ensure safety of women in the state and for indulging in corruption.

On the other hand, after completing more than two and a half years tenure in the state, the BJP led Haryana Government has planned to launch a campaign to disseminate information about the achievements of BJP led Central and State Government.

Following directions from the party high command, the state party unit, is gearing up for 2019 polls, for which a three-month campaign is scheduled to begin from May 26 to connect with the people of the state.

Recently, the Cabinet Ministers were asked to meet the general public atleast twice a month at their residence or office to address their grievances and send out a message that the government is working with the ideology of ‘Sabka Saath-Sabka Vikas’. Besides, the party workers were directed to remain present in their constituencies for atleast 15 days every month to disseminate information about the achievements of Central and State Government.

During the party’s legislative meeting, the MlAs would deliberate upon the series of planned programmes, which assumes significance in the run up to lok Sabha and state assembly polls in 2019.
