Ahead of upcoming elections to urban local bodies and gram panchayats in Haryana, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is gearing up to connect with the people of the State at grassroot level amid the ongoing farmers’ protest.
The Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday held a meeting with State MPs, BJP MLAs, district party presidents, morcha presidents to take their feedback on the implementation of Government's welfare schemes and asked them to promote the works of the State Government at grassroot level. The state party chief OP Dhankar was also present in the meeting
Preparing for the upcoming elections to municipal bodies and panchayati raj institutions (PRIs), the BJP faces a major challenge of ongoing farmers' agitation. While the farmers' agitation against the three central farm laws has been going on for over seven months now, the farmers' are also not allowing the leaders of BJP and its alliance partner JJP to hold any public events across the state.
Not only this, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) has also announced to oppose the candidates supported by the BJP and JJP in the panchayat and urban local body elections.
The prevailing situation is making it difficult for the BJP leaders and workers to work on the ground and meet the general public.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister on Wednesday asked the party MLAs and district morchas to take the government's welfare scheme to the grassroot level. The presidents of various morchas were also asked to constitute teams and begin working at the ground level to connect with the people of the state in view of upcoming elections.
It was decided that by July 15, meetings of all district executive committees will be held while meetings at 306 mandals will be held from July 16-30 to give a boost to the government's welfare work and to gear up for the forthcoming polls.
Khattar also talked about the achievements of 600 days of BJP-JJP government in Haryana. The State Government has launched many schemes for every section of the society and to help the needy and poor people, he said.
The Chief Minister while talking to the mediapersons said that feedback has been taken from the party leaders and they have shared that this is a right time to get panchayat polls conducted. However, due to legal hurdles, the elections to panchayati raj institutions cannot be held before August 22. Hearing of a court case into the issue is scheduled on August 22, he added.
Apart from polls to gram panchayats, elections are also due in around 45 municipal bodies in the state.
