Notorious for their ‘outlandish’ edict especially in matrimonial issues, Haryana Khaps have hailed the Supreme Court (SC) refusal to review the verdict criminalising gay sex.
The khaps said it would indeed work to protect the century-old social custom which does not allow ‘Homosexuality’. Om Prakash Dhankhar, Chief of Dhankhar Khap and coordinator of Sarva Khap Panchayat, said “Homosexuality is such a sordid offence which is not only against our century-old social custom but also not acceptable in any community or religion hence we welcome the SC verdict which has kept intact the homosexuality as an offence with existing provisions in Section 377 of IPC,” said Dhankhar. He maintained the khaps representatives were shocked over the union governments’ move seeking the SC to review its verdict terming homosexual acts among consenting adults in privacy as illegal.
