A Kashmiri student was attacked in Mohali’s Adesh University on Wednesday. Taking serious note, Jammu & Kashmir’s former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah urged Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to intervene and take necessary steps to ensure security of the students.

National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah also requested Capt Amarinder to reassure the students, who have left their home State of Jammu & Kashmir to study in Adesh and other institutes in Mohali.

“I request Punjab CM @capt_amarinder Sahib to kindly look in to this matter urgently and take the necessary steps to reassure the students who have left their home State of J&K to study in Adesh and other institutes in Mohali,” tweeted Omar Abdullah from his official handle of the micro-blogging website Twitter.

Omar Abdullah’s reaction came on a tweet by student activist Shehla Rashid regarding the incident. “Kashmiri student Masroor Ahmed who is a fresher at Adesh Institute, Mohali was attacked while fetching water. Students describe it as attempt to murder and have gone on strike,” she tweeted.

Hours later, she tweeted that the students have complained that despite such a serious attack, the police was not ready to file FIR. “They say that it's only after their strike that an FIR was lodged. Now, they want the Principal to be removed for his negligence. Registrar has sought 10 days’ time but students' strike is on,” she tweeted.
