Caste leaders of the Jats in Haryana on Tuesday announced to resume their agitation on commencement of next Parliament session for their demand for reservation to the community in Government services and educational institutions in Haryana as well as at the Centre.
AIJASS president Yashpal Malik while addressing a rally in village Mayyar in Hisar announced to launch the agitation in November. The rally was organised to mark the death anniversary of Sunil Sheoran who died during the Jat agitation in 2009 in Mayyar village.
Malik alleged that previous Congress Government and the present BJP Government were not working honestly for their demand. The Congress as well the BJP has betrayed Jats on their demand for reservation, he said.
The Jat leader said, “If the BJP Government continued with its policies against reservation for Jats, they will cease to exist. Central and State Governments are adopting dual policies on reservation issue and wasting time by hanging the issue in the court.”
Inspite of assurance given by Central Government and BJP president Amit Shah, the matter of Jat reservation is still hanging and resentment is prevailing in the Jat community. The community is now planning an all-out battle for their reservation against the Governments, he added.
He said elections to UP, Punjab and Uttrakhand Assemblies will be held in the coming months and the BJP would be made answerable on the reservation issue.
Speaking on the riots that occurred during February’s Jat agitation in the State, Malik alleged an MP (referring to Kurukshetra BJP MP Raj Kumar Saini) had hatched the whole plan in which several were killed. Action should be taken against the responsible MP, he said without naming Saini.
Malik admitted that due to split in the Jat community, the agitation could not get success previously but this time it will be a big agitation.
The community has been a victim of politics, he added. Jat leaders and a number of people of the community from Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan also addressed the rally.
In another rally held by Jat leader and representatives of different khaps at Meham township in Rohtak, the leaders also threatened to launch another agitation in October if their demands are not fulfilled.
Hawa Singh Sangwan, a Jat leader while addressing the rally said that the fight for reservation would continue.
The Jats are demanding the State Government to strongly pursue the case to vacate Punjab and Haryana High Court’s stay on the reservation, release of “innocent youths” arrested during the quota stir held earlier in February, and adequate compensation and job to next of kin of those who lost their lives in the stir.
They have also demanded withdrawal of cases against protesters during the agitation.During the arson at the time of Jat agitation in February this year, 30 people had died and properties worth crores was damaged at many places in Haryana.
After the February’s Jat agitation, which had paralysed normal life in Haryana and affected Delhi and other neighbouring states too, the State Government had brought in a law to provide reservation for Jats and five other communities under a newly carved Backward Classes (C) category. However, the High Court had stayed it, acting on a public interest litigation.
