A large number of residents of Dhaud village in Jhajjar district blocked Jhajjar-Beri road for two hours in protest against erratic water supply. The protesters disrupted the vehicular traffic by putting branches of trees and other obstacles on the road.
The protesters said the Pubic Health Department was not ensuring the smooth supply of drinking water in the village for last two months leading to inconvenience to the villagers in doing household works daily. They had to fetch the water from distant places to meet the daily requirement of the water. “We have run from pillar to post for getting this problem redressed but to no avail. In the given situation, we had no other option but to resort to the road blockade to draw the attention of administrative officials towards this issue,” said a villager while taking to mediapersons.
The protesters were persuaded to lift the blockade following the assurance given by the officials of Public Health Department that smooth supply of the water would be restored within next two days. Earlier, the villagers assembled at a common place of the village and decided to disrupt the vehicular traffic after contemplating over the issue in depth. After the meeting, the villagers including women and children rushed to the Jhajjar-Beri road and blocked it.
The police, on getting information about the road blockade, rushed to the spot and tried to persuade the protesters to clear the road but failed to do so as they demanded higher officials of Public Health Department to come to the spot. Thereafter, an SDO along with other officials reached the spot and assured the protesting villagers of restoration of smooth potable water supply within next two days. He also informed that the supply was being affected due to some urgent reasons.
