Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), Haryana’s main Opposition party will observe ‘Haryana Bandh’ on September 8, Saturday on the issues of non-construction of Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal and scrapped Dadupur Nalvi irrigation project.
“The party has geared up for the state bandh and various trade unions have assured us their support on Saturday,” said Abhay Chautala, Leader of opposition in Haryana Assembly and INLD’s senior leader while talking to the mediapersons here.
He said that the INLD-BSP combine will continue its protest till the construction of SYL canal and withdrawal of decision of de-notification of Dadupur Nalvi irrigation project.
Earlier, the statewide Bandh was scheduled on August 18 but was postponed due to the demise former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Lashing out at the BJP, he said that despite the directions of Supreme Court, both BJP led Central and Haryana Governments have failed to ensure completion of SYL canal, which is a lifeline of farmers of the state.
After observing one-day state bandh, the INLD will raise the issue of SYL canal and scrapped Dadupur Nalvi irrigation project in the monsoon session of Haryana Assembly on September 10 and seek government’s reply on this, he said.
The INLD will also be holding a rally in Kurukshetra on September 9 , just a day after party’s ‘Haryana Bandh’.
Chautala alleged that the BJP is not serious about the construction of SYL canal and deliberately delaying it.
He also blamed the Congress for the non-completion of SYL canal.
The INLD had on August 9 held protest at Jantar Mantar in the national capital demanding the construction of the SYL canal as per the directions of the Apex Court.
Notably, the INLD, which is eyeing political revival in Haryana, has been aggressively raising the demand of construction of the SYL canal for more than one year now.
In the past, the NLD had held a series of protests including ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ across Haryana, held protest by blocking the national highway near Ambala and four other highways in Haryana, another protest at Haryana-Punjab border to demand construction of SYL canal.
