INlD slams BJP Govt over non-implementation of Swaminathan panel report

PNS

Indian National lok Dal (INlD) on Sunday charged the BJP Government of going back on its electoral promise of implementing the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission.

leader of Opposition and INlD’s senior leader Abhay Singh Chautala said that farmers are facing numerous hardships, but the BJP had "gone back on its pre-poll promise of implementing the report of the Swaminathan Commission”.

Farmers are forced to sell mustard crop below the Minimum Support Price (MSP) as the government is yet to start the procurement process, said he.

He alleged that the government had fixed Rs 3,700 per quintal as the MSP for mustard this year, but the crop was being purchased by private buyers at the rate of approx Rs 3,300 per quintal.  “The government seems non-serious towards problems of the farmers and it is unfortunate the farmers are being treated by the government,” said Chautala.  The BJP led State Government should take measures to ensure procurement of crops at MSP as per their announcements. The problems of farmers should be addressed, he demanded.

The party had also announced to initiate campaign demanding implementation of Swaminathan report for the welfare of farmers in the state.
