In an attempt to launch the “third front” at the national level on September 25, former Haryana Chief Minister and Indian National Lok Dal president Om Prakash Chautala on Monday met former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and former Uttar Pradesh CM Mulayam Singh Yadav separately at their Delhi residence.

Earlier on August 1, Chautala had met Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and JD-U leader KC Tyagi at his residence in Gurugram over the same issue.

The former PM HD Deve Gowda is Janata Dal-Secular (JDS)  president while former UP CM Mulayam Singh Yadav is founder and chief patron of Samajwadi Party.

During the meetings with HD Deve Gowda and Mulayam Singh Yadav, the political situation of the country and the state was discussed, as well as the issues of farmers and the formation of the strong “third front” were discussed, stated the INLD’s statement.

Both the leaders described the effort of the INLD supremo to form the "third front” as a commendable step and assured all possible help from their parties, the statement said.

Chautala also invited both the leaders for the 'Samman Samaroh' on the birthday of former Deputy Prime Minister late Tau Devi Lal (September 25), which was accepted by them. The INLD’s chief meeting with the opposition leaders came in the backdrop of deliberations being held by Trinamool Congress and National Congress Party to form a “third front” to challenge the ruling BJP at the Centre.

Notably, Chautala, who was serving a ten-year term in connection with a teachers’ recruitment scam, formally released from Delhi’s Tihar Jail on July 2.

After his release from the prison, Chautala had announced that he will contact opposition leaders across the country to forge a “third front” at the national level.

The INLD patriarch had said that before September 25, which is the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Devi Lal, he will try to meet opposition leaders and urge them to come on one platform to launch the "third front".
