The body of a trekker that has been lying on the icy heights in Jammu & Kashmir for over a week has been found, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said on Friday.

The body of Arun Sharma was flown to Chamba town, from where it will be taken to his hometown Dharmshala, the Chief Minister told the reporters.

The body was close to the Umasi Pass in Jammu & Kashmir that connects Kishtwar with Zanskar in Kargil district.

The trekker was stranded there owing to injuries. A rescue team reached there by chopper on August 16 but found him dead, the Chief Minister said. It could not airlift the body as it was frozen.

The second trekker, 30-year-old Rijul Gill, who was not injured, reached Zanskar in Kargil after more than one and a half days of trekking. Both trekkers had left for Umasi Pass on August 9.
