Amid the devastation caused by flash floods and landslides in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Sunday flagged off three trucks loaded with essential relief material from Raj Bhavan. The supplies, dispatched through the State Red Cross Society, are headed to Mandi to support disaster-affected families grappling with the aftermath of cloudbursts and damaged infrastructure.
The relief consignment includes 540 blankets, 500 tarpaulin sheets, 20 boxes of clothing, kitchen sets, buckets, and other essential household items aimed at providing immediate support to those displaced or impacted by the calamity.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor expressed serious concern over the extensive damage in Thunag and surrounding villages, especially the severed road links, landslides, and disrupted services. He lauded the district administration, NDRF, SDRF, and armed forces for their swift and tireless rescue efforts.
Urging people to support authorities and avoid crowding rescue zones, Shukla highlighted the critical role of local communities familiar with the terrain. He also announced his intention to personally visit the affected areas soon to assess the situation firsthand and meet with victims.
Emphasizing the repeated nature of such disasters, Governor Shukla called for greater environmental awareness and sustainable planning. He urged infrastructure and policy-making departments to formulate a long-term strategy to protect Himachal’s fragile Himalayan ecology.
He further appealed to citizens to remain cautious during the rainy season and discouraged tourists from venturing near rivers and rivulets.
