Honeypreet Insan taken to Bathinda for investigation

PNS

Haryana Police on Thursday took Honeypreet Insan to Punjab’s Bathinda and Sangrur to question her about the hideouts when she was absconding.

The duo Honeypreet and Sukhdeep Kaur, who were arrested by Haryana Police on Tuesday and were sent to six-day police remand a day before, were taken to Bathinda and Sangrur to cross-check Honeypreet’s claims of staying there for a few days  while remaining fugitive for 38 days.

Panchkula Police Commissioner AS Chawla while talking to the mediapersons on Thursday said that the police is investigating the case on the basis of whatever Honeypreet has told in initial interrogation. She and Sukhdeep Kaur were taken to Bathinda and other places where she stayed for sometime during the last 38 days.

On the question whether Honeypreet is cooperating in the investigation, Chawla said that she and Sukhdeep Kaur are not co-operating in interrogation as desired. They both have shown reluctance in the initial interrogation, said he.

Chawla also said that the person who provided Honeypreet’s whereabouts to the police while she was absconding, was also rounded up and being interrogated by the police on Thursday.

When asked whether she has revealed anything significant during interrogation, Chawla said that we are cross checking the things revealed by her.

On possibility of conducting a narco test on Honeypreet, the Panchkula Police Commissioner said that narco test is the last resort and we are not visualizing that ... For that we will have to take approval from court and also, consent of accused, he added.

The Police Department may ask for further remand if Honeypreet’s reluctant attitude continues this way, he added.

About the alleged role of a senior Punjab Congress leader in helping her to escape from Haryana police for over a month, Chawla said that interrogation is going on and we are hopeful that more things would come out during our investigation. If we get any specific evidence against anyone, we will take action against those, he added.

IG Mamta Singh, who is heading the police team questioning her, said that Honeypreet has not been completely cooperating in her questioning. Honeypreet was sent to six-day police custody on Wednesday. Honeypreet was arrested by Haryana Police on Tuesday afternoon from the Zirakpur-Patiala road in Punjab while travelling in a Toyota Innova, along with a Sukhdeep Kaur.

The 36-year-old  adopted daughter of dera chief Ram Rahim, Honeypreet went underground following the violence after sect head was convicted and sentenced to 20-year of imprisonment for raping two female disciples inside the Dera.

Facing the sedition charge, in connection with the violence that led to the death of 41 people in Panchkula and Sirsa following Ram Rahim’s conviction, Honeypreet was on the run for more than 38 days.

The prosecution had sought her custody as they said that she was the closest aide of Ram Rahim and knew many things about the activities of the sect.

During over an hour long hearing that took place in the Panchkula court a day before, she had told the Court that she is innocent and has no role in inciting violence on August 25 following dera chief's conviction.
