Himachal Pradesh Government has offered a post of Deputy Superintendent of Police to Sushma Verma, the member of Indian international women cricket team for her outstanding achievements in the game.

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Tuesday said Sushma Verma has been offered the post of DSP in HP Police as she has brought laurels to the State and to the people of Himachal Pradesh by excelling herself in international cricket.

Verma, who is wicketkeeper in Indian women cricket team, belongs to Himri Panchayat of Shimla Rural Constituency.

She is the first woman cricketer from the hill State to represent India in international cricket and is a success story of Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association’s residential academy in Dharamsala.

The right-hand batswoman made her debut in Indian cricket team in the 2014 England tour.

Meanwhile, the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) said it’s a moment of great happiness and pride that their academy girl was an integral part of this success at the ICC World cup.

“Our former president Anurag Thakur created world class cricketing infrastructure in our small hill State and also for setting up a world class residential women’s cricket academy at Kangra. Our women cricketers have done very well at the national stage due to these facilities and we are hoping that few more girls from the state would don the national colors soon and do us proud as Sushma did,” RP Singh, Director HPCA and member governing council, said in a statement.

HPCA has named the newly constructed stadium pavilion in her name and would shortly organise a felicitation ceremony where Sushma and other women cricketers would be honoured.
