Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Dev Vrat on Tuesday stressed on the significance of proper bringing up and education of the girl child and women empowerment.
Speaking at the annual function of the DAV Centenary Public School here, he said the women had made glorious contribution for the preservation of the rich cultural heritage over the centuries. Women had been held in high esteem in this country. Women played a big role in every sphere of life. It had been enshrined in out holy books that Gods reside where women are worshiped.
He said it was paramount to respect and honour women in order to build a prosperous and happy nation. Even at present women are playing a pioneering role in the various spheres including literature, science and technology and even surpassing their male counterparts.
The Governor called upon the people to change their pro-son mentality and accord respect to the girl child and added that the declining sex ratio of the girl child was a matter of deep concern and it needed to be reversed as soon as possible.
He urged the people to adopt a healthy life style and develop a healthy life style by shunning bad habits and imbibe discipline, hard work and patriotism to make India one of the prosperous counties of the world. He said there was a stark need to save the young generation from the menace of drugs. Governor asked the people of Himachal Pradesh to play active role in the nation-wide cleanliness campaign and make the state healthy, green, and beautiful.
He also distributed prizes to meritorious students and released a newsletter ' The Rising ' and Vision Document of the school. Prabodh Mahajan Vice President DAV Central Management Committee New Delhi welcomed the Governor. K S Guleria Principal read out the annual report..
