leader of the Haryana Congress legislature Party, Kiran Choudhry on Monday asked the BJP Government to help, not harass, the farmers, and lift all ‘unwanted’ conditions imposed on the procurement of mustard crop which are forcing the farmers to sell their crop to private traders at Rs700-Rs800 less than the market price in the mandis of the State.
The former Excise and Taxation Minister said the unwanted conditions imposed on the procurement of mustard crop include village-wise roster under which farmer of a village can sell his crop only on the day the turn of his village comes. Besides, a passport size photograph and I-card, the farmer has to bring along ‘fard‘ of his land from patwari, and he cannot sell more than 25 quintals of mustard crop a day, she claimed.
“All these are illogical, unfair and unwanted conditions which are coming in the way of the farmers wanting to sell their crop at MSP. Worse still, they have not been told about these conditions; no announcement has been made in the villages. While in Mandi-Dabwali, roster was not prepared till Sunday, in Hisar the procurement is yet to start”, Choudhry said.
Resultantly, the farmers are being forced to sell their crop to private traders at Rs 700-Rs800 less than the MSP which does not even cover their cost of production, the Congress leader claimed.
“The Manohar lal Khattar Government, swearing to double the income of farmers, should stop harassing them and immediately lift these illogical and unwarranted conditions”, Choudhry demanded.
