He has dug his own grave, say detractors

Bhupinder Sharma

A day after his remarks led to controversy, CWC member Birender Singh on Monday attended a function at “Jaat Bhawan” here to motivate Congress workers to register their maximum participation in his proposed rally on August 20 at Jind.

Around 400 party workers attended the function. However, the loyalists of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda did not attend the function as Birender is considered the rival of Hooda in the Congress politics of the State.

In his address, Birender Singh said Congress president Sonia Gandhi has given her consent to attend the rally on late Rajiv Gandhi”s birth anniversary in Jind. Billed as a show of strength, Birender is going to every district of the state to convince people to attend the rally.   He has already covered Yamunanagar, Kurkushetra and its surrounding areas and on Monday he was in Panchkula.

Asked whether he had extended invitation to Hooda, Birender said as party chief is coming in the rally, everyone has to attend the rally.  However, he said, he will send formal invitations also. However, Hooda”s loyalists are enjoying the slip of tongue of Birender on the "Rs100 crore Rajya Sabha seat for sale" statement.

"By making such a statement, Birender Singh has dug his own grave," an MlA close to Hooda said. The loyalists of the Chief Minister are hoping that after the controversial statement, party President Sonia Gandhi could cancel her visit the Jind rally organised by Birender.
