HC issues notice to Haryana on chaos on Jat reservation

Facing a tough time in dealing with the Jats on the issue of reservation, Haryana government now has come under judicial scanner for not being able to put a curb on the chaos in Haryana.

Taking up a public interest petition accusing government of inaction, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday put the State of Haryana on notice. In his petition, Murari lal Gupta of Bhiwani has claimed that most of the roads and tracks in Rohtak, Bhiwani, Jind, Sonepat, Hisar, Jhajjar and Fatehabad districts were being blocked by the anti-social elements since February 12.

The petitioner says that the agitators have also threatened to block railways tracks on borders of Uttar Pradesh and National Capital Delhi on February 21 to seek reservation for the Jat community. “No action is being taken by government, police and administrative authorities against these unlawful, antisocial and anti national persons and this inaction of Government and the police is causing infringement of fundamental rights of public guaranteed under article 19 & 21 of the Constitution. It was also causing irreparable loss to public and public properties” added the petitioner.

Seeking prompt action for opening roads and rail traffic, the petitioner has sought directions for declaring unconstitutional the call for, and holding of forceful blockade on roads and railway tracks.

The petition claims that 75 criminal cases were registered after past agitations for illegal road block or damage to public and private properties in 2010 and 2012 but the police closed many of those cases under political pressure declaring them untraced.
