Have not fielded any candidate for MC polls: AAP

PNS

The Aam Aadmi Party on Monday made it clear that it has neither fielded nor supporting any candidate for the February 25 municipal council and nagar panchayat polls in Punjab. At the same time, the party indicated that it would take “strict action” against the party members or leaders for supporting any candidate, which may also lead to cancellation of party membership.

Besides, it also maintained that use of its name or party symbol — broom — by any candidate, the AAP would initiate a strict action against them. AAP has already announced its decision to stay away from the state civic body polls, however, many candidates is using its name to cash in on its popularity.

Party’s senior national leader Sanjay Singh on Monday cleared the doubts whether AAP is contesting or even supporting some of the candidates in fray for 122 municipal councils or nagar panchayats.

“AAP has taken a strong decision for not contesting these elections because most of the members were busy in Delhi elections; and seeking current priorities, it is not good to take any decision in hurry. Repeatedly, we have denied any participation in the municipal council elections in Punjab,” said Sanjay Singh here, who was accompanied by party’s leader from Punjab Jasraj Singh longia.

Singh said, “If any party member or leader or volunteer is supporting someone in municipal council election, a strict action would be taken against them which might even lead to cancellation of their membership with Aam Aadmi Party.” “If any candidate will use party symbol or name of any party leader during his or her campaign, a strict action would also be taken against them,” added Singh.
