Under its ‘Swachh Haryana, Swachh Bharat’ campaign, Haryana Government will give incentives to village panchayats and Municipal Corporations for maintaining cleanliness and do away with the system of giving subsidy for construction of toilets.
“Efforts would be made to change the mindset of the people so that they feel the need to have a toilet in their individual households and use these toilets to avoid ill effects of open defecation,” said Additional Chief Secretary, Rural Development Department, Navraj Sandhu while addressing the divisional workshop on Open Defecation Free (ODF) strategy for Swachh Haryana here.
She made it clear that now Government would not give Rs 12000 for construction of toilets, instead, incentives would be given to village panchayats for maintaining cleanliness. Earlier, people constructed toilets in their households availing benefit of government scheme, but never used it, said she.
Even, an overall clean and functional public toilet at district level will get an award of Rs 10,000 each month under Swarn Jayanti Award for Sanitation. One clean place can become learning laboratory for other neighboring localities, Sandhu added. She said that the State Government will hold competitions between village panchayats every month for motivating the villagers to maintain cleanliness and award one best clean and green village in a Revenue Block every month with Rs 1 lakh.
These competitions will begin from this month itself, the winners of which would be awarded in the District level Independence Day functions. There are 126 Blocks in the state, so 126 panchayats will get award of Rs one lakh each, she added.
