The Diploma Entrance Test (DET) would be discontinued from the session 2016-17 onwards in Haryana
Haryana Technical Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma on Tuesday said that the admissions to Diploma (Engineering) course in government and government-aided polytechnic institutions in the state would be made on the basis of merit of qualifying examination.
Sharma said that a decision to this effect has been taken by the State Government to facilitate students and their guardians.
He said that Chief Minister Manohar lal has directed to conduct admissions in 2016-17 session through online system on the pattern of Industrial Training Institutes.
Earlier students had to fill online form for admission to Engineering Diploma in polytechnics after passing the class X examination. They also had to appear in a written examination and admission was given on the basis of this examination. The entire process was time consuming and costly, said the Minister.
He said that it was also decided that availability of Diploma prospectus, method of applications, registration and choice filling would be followed as per the earlier practice. However, a small booklet containing the information for the awareness and information of stake holders would be provided free of cost, he added.
