With a vision to make children of the State educated and cultured, the Haryana Government on Sunday signed an MoU with Ashoka University, named after the great Emperor Ashoka, in Rajiv Gandhi Education City in Sonepat district, for providing Chief Minister’s fellowship.

The MoU was signed at a function organised on the occasion of the second foundation day of the University, where the Chief Minister Manohar lal was the chief guest.

The Chief Minister appreciated the goal of the university to educate the students on the ideals of justice of Emperor Ashoka in this age of science. India is a country of young people and more than 60 per cent of its population falls in the group of not more than 35 years. Today, the world is looking at India, said he.

He said that schemes were being formulated to shift the focus on the overall development of youth. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has constituted National Skill Development Mission with a view to providing the youth job opportunities according to their skills. On similar pattern, the Haryana Government too has constituted Haryana State Skill Development Mission.

Emphasizing the need for educating the girls, Manohar lal said that during the 14 months of the present Government, five new Government women’s colleges had been opened. The plan is to have one women’s college in a radius of every 20 kms. Mapping of educational institutions has been done and an action plan is being prepared, he added.

The State Government has taken the initiative to curb corruption through e-Governance and has been successful to a large extent. Similarly, police portal ‘HarSamay’ has been launched and women police stations had been set up in all districts so that women feel no hesitation in getting cases registered, he said.

Manohar lal said that last year, national initiative ‘Beti Bachao – Beti Padhao’ campaign was launched by the Prime Minister from Panipat which has been a great success in the State. As a sequel to implementation of the programme, Haryana has, for the first time, recorded sex ratio of 903 girls per 1,000 boys which is a matter of pride for the State.

Narendra Modi also mentioned about this in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ broadcasted on radio today. He said that the ‘Beti Bachao – Beti Padhao’ campaign had greatly impacted the minds of people of Haryana, and improvement in the sex ratio bore testimony to it.

Not only this, the Prime Minster also appreciated the initiative of the Haryana Government for selecting the most educated girl of each village for hoisting the National Flag on all Government schools of every village on Republic Day and Independence  Day, added the Chief Minister.
