PNS

In a major decision to check the shortage of doctors in the state, Haryana Government on Wednesday decided to raise the retirement age of practicing doctors from 58 to 65 years.

Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij while talking to mediapersons after a meeting with the Chief Minister Manohar lal on this issue said that it has also been decided that those doctors who were working on administrative posts, would retire at the age of 58 years, but would be able to continue to serve upto 65 years only if they opt to practice in any health institution of their choice.

The State Government has followed the vision of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said. Vij said that it has also been decided to invite applications from those retired doctors who would like to re-join the service as a medical practitioner. They would be re-employed, he added.

He said that this measure would help in checking the shortage of doctors in the state.

Haryana Civil Medical Services Association (HCMSA) doctors have threatened to go on a mass leave if their demands are not met by October 25. The demands also included enhancement of retirement age for HCMS doctors.

The HCMSA has announced that the emergency services, post-mortems and medico-legal services will remain functional on October 26. But if the authorities concerned still fail to take concrete action, the entire health/medical services in the state will be paralysed from October 27 till the demands are met.
