Haryana polls: Dissension in State BJP over tickets

After its victory in the lok Sabha elections in Haryana, several over-ambitious leaders in the BJP are now spearheading a campaign against the official party candidates announced in the list of 43 earlier.

The ticket aspirants denied party nomination have started accusing the party, especially State president Ram Bilas Sharma, for a partisan role. Some of them have also announced to contest the Assembly polls as independents from their desired constituencies.

Two-time MlA from Bahadurgarh Nafe Singh Rathi, Mukesh Sharma, from Badshahpur and Jatinder Singh Khurdban Kaka from ladwa constituency in Kurukshetra district, have made-up their mind to contest Assembly elections as Independents from their respective constituencies after denial of tickets to them.

Party had given tickets to member of state executive Naresh Kaushik from Bahadurgarh, Rao Narbir Singh from Badshahpur and Pawan Saini from ladwa.

Similarly, some aspirants have decided to oppose the party candidates from within the party platform. Pandit Kailash Chand Sharma from Narnaul will oppose OP Yadav, party candidate, Balraj Kundu and national vice president of the BJP labour cell, Ramesh Balhara from Meham will oppose Shamsher Kharkhara candidate from Meham.

Sources said Baba Ramdev, who belongs to Mahendragarh, is also not happy over the party overlooking his supporters in the Ahirwal belt.

Some of the BJP members from Karnal have even dispatched letters to the party president Amit Shah, expressing their resentment on the distribution of tickets.

Karnal MP Ashwini Chopra has openly criticised the way tickets were allotted in his parliamentary constituency without his concurrence.

Sources said the dissension could grow after the second list is announced on September 20.

Some BJP stalwarts and others who joined it from Congress and INlD are trying tickets for their kith and kin.  According to sources, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is trying ticket for her sister Vandana from Saffidon, Union Minister of State Rao Inderjit Singh wants his daughter Aarti Rao from Rewari, Union minister Krishanpal Gujjar wants his son Devender Singh in the fray from Tigaon, Banto Kataria, wife of Ambala MP Rattan lal Kataria, wants to contest from Nilokheri, Union Minister of State Gen VK Singh’s brother-in-law Aridaman Singh wants a ticket from Sohna and Karnal MP Ashwani Chopra’s wife Kiran Chopra wants to contest from Karnal. Sources said the list is endless.

Senior leaders of BJP, including Haryana election in charge, Kailash Vijay Wargiya, Jagdish Mukhi and RSS leader Manohar lal Khattar have already made it clear that party would not entertain any family member of party leaders or candidates for Assembly elections. But the ticket aspirants are hoping that the guideline would not be followed in favour of “winning” candidates.
