A day after actor Rishi Kapoor targeted the Congress for the practice of naming all major assets of the country after the Nehru-Gandhi family during its rule, Haryana Minister Anil Vij has come out in support of the actor.

Haryana Sports and Health Minister Vij, who has himself been very critical of Nehru-Gandhi family on various occasions, said that there is nothing wrong in the statement and there is a need to change the names of such major assets named after Nehru-Gandhi family.

Talking to the mediapersons, Vij, a five-time legislator from Ambala Cantt said that Congress focused on naming everything after Nehru-Gandhi family. The major assets of the country should be named after the martyrs, he said.

Notably, Vij had last year proposed to change the name of ‘Rajiv Gandhi Khel Parisars’ in the state. The issue had triggered off heated exchanges between the BJP and Congress legislatures.

Following this, Haryana Government had decided that sports complexes in the state would be named after the Martyrs Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

A day before, the 63-year-old actor, Rishi Kapoor had said that the names of the prominent places should be changed after those who worked for the welfare of the country.

He had twitted, “Change Gandhi family assets named by Congress. Bandra/Worli Sea link to lata Mangeshkar or JRD Tata link road. Baap ka maal samjh rakha thaIJ (Did they consider it family propertyIJ).”

In another tweet, he said, “If roads in Delhi can be changed why not Congress assets/property ke naam IJ Was in Chandigarh wahan bhi Rajeev Gandhi assetsIJ Socho IJ WhyIJ (sic).”
