Haryana Government has decided to do away with the age old system of exemption of municipal taxes on its buildings and establishments so as to inspire the general masses towards payment of property tax besides making Municipal Bodies financially strong.
A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting regarding property tax held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar lal on Wednesday.
It was also decided to give freedom to Municipal Corporation and Councils to fix the rates of property tax depending on the area and value of property. Till now, it was the State Government which fixes the property tax to be levied on the owners. The State Government would henceforth fix only the floor and the ceiling rates of properties.
