The future of a society dwells in the university classrooms and what the nation will become depends upon the nature of people living in that society, Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki said on Monday, while delivering the inaugural lecture in the Swarna Jayanti lecture Series being organised in Kurukshetra University.

He said in their formative years, particularly the teenage, the young minds develop their personality and when they become adults, they make a nation. It is the responsibility of a university to ignite young minds so that they can become independent thinkers during their transition from students to responsible citizens of the society, he said.

Solanki observed that the event of Swarna Jayanti celebrations should entail introspection and a true assessment of the gains and the goals set for the nation should be made. Haryana has a glorious past and it represents the nations. But, in the changing times, there is a need to invest in the most important stakeholder of a society, i.e. the individuals.

He applauded KU for developing a series of activities planned in the Swanna Jayanti year. As an institution, which is even older than the state of Haryana, Kurukshetra University has indeed taken a lead, expected of the oldest University of Haryana.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Kailash Chandra Sharma said that Kurukshetra University has chalked out a calendar aimed on the occasion of Swarna Jayanti with a multitude of activities in its fold. He added that 32 national and international level events will be organised on the campus, including diverse domains- academics, cultural, sports, health, etc.

While explaining the intent of the event, Swarna Jayanti lecture Series Coordinator and Dean Students Welfare Prof. Pawan Sharma said that this lecture series aims at bringing acclaimed academicians and statesmen to the campus for interaction with the academic fraternity.
