Grappling to deal with skewed sex ratio, Haryana Government has decided to promote “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” programme in a big way. A logo of the programme would now be stamped on the hand of every voter at the time of voting in the State to spread awareness about the same.

A spokesman of Haryana Government on Monday said that a gamut of activities have been planned to promote “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” (BBBP) programme in the State. The State Government would organise various activities in 12 districts of the State with low sex ratio in the month of October-November 2015.

Also, Sanjhi competitions at block and district level would be organized in liaison with District Public Relations Officer by October 31. Haryana Diwas would be celebrated as Beti Diwas on November 1, 2015 by planting trees by name of girl child, distribution of certificates to honour parents of girl child, hold training camps at block level etc, he said.

Apart from this, Gram Panchayat Signature Campaign would be organised at village level by placing a signature board at Panchayat level with the logo of BBBP and all villagers would be requested to sign on that board, he added.

Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the BBBP programme on January 22 from Panipat in 100 districts of the country with lowest sex ratio which included 12 districts of Haryana.

However, despite the State Government splurging crores of rupees for the promotion of Centre’s ambitious Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme, yet its impact is not felt in most parts of the State.

According to the latest data with the Haryana Health Department, Mahendergarh continued to hold to distinction of being the ‘worst’ district of Haryana recording sex ratio at birth of 735 girls per 1000 boys while Panipat topped the charts with 941 girls per 1000 boys.

As per the data, from January 2015 to July 2015, Ambala witnessed dip in sex ratio at birth from 984 in January to 842 girls per 1000 boys in July. Similarly, the districts registering plunge in sex ratio were Bhiwani (845 to 836), Fatehabad (899 to 855), Gurgaon (880 to 851), Hissar (897 to 857), Kaithal (877 to 795), Karnal (914 to 878), Mewat (974 to 858), Mahendragarh (811 to 735), Jind (923 to 916), Panchkula (892 to 830) and Panipat (952 to 941).

The State Government had in July appointed actress Parineeti Chopra as brand ambassador for the ‘BBBP’ programme to promote the cause of the girl child.

The Manohar lal Khattar led Haryana Government had also announced to give a reward of Rs1.50 lakh to the village, which would be

successful in improving the skewed sex ratio and check female foeticide.

Haryana had recorded the lowest child sex ratio of 834 compared to the national average of 919 (according to census of India 2011).
