Haryana Govt shielding culprits of quota stir: Opp

PNS

The opposition, INlD and Congress in Haryana on Tuesday accused the Manohar lal led BJP Government in the state of shielding the culprits of Jat quota stir and demanded that Prakash Singh Committee report should be made public.

The revelations made by retired IPS officer Prakash Singh that he was pressurized to be lenient with bureaucrats and police officers, while investigating acts of omission and commissions, committed during Jat quota stir, has triggered a heated controversy with the opposition parties accusing the ruling BJP of shielding the real culprits of violence during Jat reservation stir.

leader of opposition and INlD’s senior leader Abhay Chautala on Tuesday alleged that the State Government is trying to save some of its MlAs and ministers who had tried to influence Prakash Singh during investigations.

The former Uttar Pradesh DGP, who headed the one man commission appointed on February 25  to probe the lapses into the official response during  Jat quota stir that turned violent in the state, had claimed that he was pressured to let off influential people and government servants and police officers too, who were involved in the violence.

While talking to the mediapersons, Chautala demanded that the report of Prakash Singh Committee should be made public.

Criticising the BJP led State Government's decision to suspend three HCS and 10 DSPs, he said that the move was an attempt to save some higher ups. The Government should reveal the reason of their suspension, he demanded.

Alleging that the government may make changes in the report, he said that Prakash Singh has already accepted that he was approached by some ministers and MlAs regarding his investigation. This proves the involvement of ruling government's ministers and MlAs in the incident, he added.

Chautala also demanded that the State Government should summon a special session of the state assembly to discuss the Prakash Singh committee report.

On the other hand, Congress leader and MlA Karan Singh Dalal alleged that the State Government is punishing officers while the Chief Minister is himself responsible for the violence during Jat stir.

Demanding that the report should be made public, he questioned the State Government saying, “Why the government is reluctant to make the report publicIJ”

The State Government is trying to protect its own people who ARE the main culprits behind the violent Jat stir in February, alleged the Congress leader, while talking to the mediapersons.

Meanwhile, Haryana Cabinet Minister Ram Bilas Sharma on Tuesday said that the report of Prakash Singh Committee would be made public soon. At present, the Government is analyzing the report and taking appropriate action, he said.

A total of 30 persons were killed and more than 300 were injured during the quota agitation in the state. Also, property worth hundreds of crores of rupees was damaged and destroyed in the mayhem.

Notably, as many as 90 officers including IAS and IPS officers were indicted for “deliberate negligence” during the Jat quota agitation by Prakash Singh Committee and adverse comments were made against them in the report. About 30 percent officers inducted are from Rohtak, which had witnessed maximum violence during the Jat reservation stir.

The inquiry panel had inquired into the role of officers starting from the rank of Sub-Inspector to SP in police and Naib Tehsildar or duty Magistrate to the rank of Deputy Commissioner in civil administration in the riot-affected districts of Rohtak, Jhajjar, Jind, Hisar, Kaithal, Bhiwani, Sonepat and Panipat.
