Haryana Government on Wednesday ordered a probe into the PGIMS Rohtak lift mishap in which a 62-year-old man was killed.  Anand Swaroop, a resident of Janata Colony in Rohtak, was killed on Tuesday allegedly after he got stuck in a lift in the OPD section of the medical institute.

Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij on Wednesday said that a director-level officer of the state health department would conduct the inquiry into the freak episode.

The lift had reportedly stopped working due to power failure. It is a matter of investigation why the lift stopped working after the failure of power even while it was connected with the generator of the hospital, said Vij.

He said he has asked the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to direct the civil surgeons concerned of various districts to check the lift of their hospitals in a proper way to ensure such incidents are not repeated. Vij said he had got a complaint about the lift of Ambala City civil hospital which had not been working properly for last several years.  He added those old lifts which are not in working properly even after repeated repairs would be replaced soon.  An inspection  regarding this would be conducted in various health institutions of the state, said Vij.     PNS
