Haryana Government on Tuesday launched its newly developed apple market in Panchkula, primarily to cater to the demand from apple growers in Himachal Pradesh.
“The apple market, aiming at a turn-over of Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 crore, would have the potential to generate indirect job opportunities for 10,000 to 20,000 persons,” said Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Om Prakash Dhankar, after launching the purchase season at the apple market. He said time was not far when Panchkula’s apple market would figure prominently on the country’s map. Given the facility of an airport, there is lot of potential for the export of good quality apples from here, said Dhankar. The Minister said it was a matter of pride for the State that not only the grains but also an apple market had become functional in Haryana. Soon, all the mandis will be made online, he added.
With this facility, when the apples would be auctioned in Panchkula, businessman and traders from Gurugram would be able to buy apple online. Work is also in full swing to develop Gannaur Mandi..., said the Minister.
