Haryana Govt gives clarification on water in Hansi Butana Canal

PNS

Haryana Government has contradicted the “reports being spread” that water has been released in Hansi Butana Canal to give additional benefit to Rohtak district, stating that it is totally baseless and mischievous.

A spokesman of the State Irrigation Department said a bridge on Western Jamuna Canal (WJC) main canal at RD 105000 collapsed on September 15 and there was dire necessity to reconstruct it. At that time, 8500 cusecs water was running in WJC Main Canal and there was demand of water for crops in various areas falling in various offtakes downstream 105000 WJC channel.

Therefore, it was planned to construct a temporary bridge which was Bailey bridge for which UP Bridge Corporation and Haryana Public Works (Buildings and Roads) Department, who were having their own Bailey bridges were contacted. However, both the agencies refused to construct a Bailey bridge on WJC Main Canal in a width of 250 feet.

He said that in order to ensure delivery of water to various parts of Haryana as per the demand, 3200 cusecs water would be run through Augmentation Canal and 1000 cusecs water would be run in Sirsa Branch from RD 89000 that is Budhera Head in Sirsa Branch through Hansi Butana Canal.

He added that the necessary approval for this regulation arrangement was obtained from the State Government and accordingly water is being run in various channels including Hansi-Butana Canal, which is basically re-routing of the water running in WJC Canal.
