Haryana Govt employees held 'Jail Bharo Andolan'

PNS

Agitated by Haryana Government’s apathy, thousands of Government employees on Thursday participated in ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ across the State to press for their demands including bringing an ordinance for regularisation of employees affected due to High Court’s verdict.

“The Government employees in all districts held protest dharnas and marches against the Haryana Government. The employees also courted arrested during the ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ to raise their demands on Thursday,” said Subhash lamba, general secretary of Sarv Karamchari Sangh, an umbrella body representing various employees unions in the state.

He said that the State Government should come up with a solution to save jobs of affected employees due to HC’s verdict. We are demanding that an ordinance should be introduced to regularise the jobs of these contractual employees, he said.

“As promised by the BJP, we are also demanding a pay scale at par with Punjab government employees, regularization of contractual employees, filling of  vacant posts, equal pay for equal work,” lamba said.

He said that if the government fails to accept our demands, another round of protests will be held from July 1 -7 in the state, during which the government employees will go to the residences of MlAs to raise their demands.

The employees unions have also announced ‘Haryana Bandh’ in August if their demands are not fulfilled.

Notably, the State Government had on Monday constituted a three-member committee under Chief Secretary DS Dhesi to analyze the recent verdict of the Punjab and Haryana High Court quashing regularization of the employees by the previous Congress Government and submit a report to protect the interests of the affected employees.

Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and leader of opposition and INlD’s senior leader Abhay Chautala has also demanded bringing an ordinance to provide relief to affected employees due to HC order.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had on May 31 set aside the “employee regularisation policy” whereby the previous State Government had regularised the services of thousands of contractual employees. The previous Congress government led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda had issued three notifications in 2014, three months before the Assembly polls, and regularised contractual and ad-hoc employees. The HC had however given six months to the State Government to make regular appointments against these posts and to enable the affected employees to find jobs.

Reacting to the employees protest under the banner of Sarv Haryana Karamchari Sangh, Rajiv Jain, media advisor to Haryana Chief Minister, said that the State Government is constantly taking decisions in the interest of the employees. At present, a committee has been constituted which will consider all the legal aspects of HC order and submit its report to the government, he added.
