Haryana Govt. employees all set to launch agitation

Nishu Mahajan

Peeved over the Manohar lal Khattar Government’s lackadaisical attitude towards their demands, the disgruntled employees unions have announced to launch an agitation in the state.

Upping the ante against the ruling BJP to press for their demands, various employees unions have accused the State Government of betraying them and also, threatened to go on indefinite strike in the coming days.

Haryana Karamchari Mahasangh has announced to launch agitation from January onwards while, various roadways unions have announced to initiate the protest against the Government in December.

A joint convention of various state employees’ unions has also been convened on December 2 in Rohtak to devise a strategy to raise their demands and announce future course of action.

Haryana Karamchari Mahasangh is pressing for various demands including regularisation of temporary employees, issuance of a notification on cashless medical facility, provision of allowances on a par with Central government employees, filling of  vacant posts among others.

On the other hand, Haryana Roadways Workers Union has asked the government to release pending bonus to its employees, not to withdraw long route buses and also, accused it of privatizing the state roadways.

lashing out at the government for backtracking from its promises, Virender Singh Dhankar, state general secretary, Haryana Karamchari Mahasangh announced that we have decided to launch a one-month long signature campaign in January against the State Government. During the campaign, we will go among general public to raise our issues and take their signatures for supporting us, said he.

Accusing government for not keeping its promises made in their previous meetings with employees unions, Dhankar said we have been demanding regularisation of temporary employees, cashless medical facility, risk allowance and other allowances on a par with Central government employees.

Even after repeated assurances by the government, nothing has been done to fulfill the demands of lakhs of employees in the state, said he.

The state employees will observe one day strike on February 20 and the strike would be indefinite, if our demands are not fulfilled, he added.

Dhankar further said that we have convened a joint convention of various state employees unions on December 2 in Rohtak, where we will announce our future course of action.

Haryana Roadways Workers Union leader Sarbat Singh Punia  said that the roadways unions will hold protest for three hours on November 24 at all depots in the state. Apart from this, protests will be held across Haryana in December against the State Government, he added.

Be it government’s decision to stop long route buses or giving permits to private operators, all such decisions are anti-employees. The government has planned to withdraw more than 400 long route buses plying from Haryana to various states from December onwards and deploy such buses within the state. Such decisions are being taken to provide benefits to private operators, he alleged.

Punia added we will hold protest against the government’s decision from December onwards.

At present, various employees’ unions in the state are at loggerheads with Haryana Government over their pending demands.

The State Government had in the past tried to assuage the employees by giving them assurances. However, the tussle between the two sides have continued in the past two years with employees of various departments including health, power, transport, education among others  holding protests in the state.

The BJP led Haryana Government had also several times imposed Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) in the state to prohibit state employees from holding protests.
