Haryana Congress chief seeks Hooda's arrest

After the Delhi Police booked former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his MP son Deepender Hooda for an alleged assault on Haryana Congress chief Ashok Tanwar in the national capital last year, Tanwar on Wednesday demanded immediate arrest of the accused in the case.

Slamming the Delhi Police for the delay in registering an FIR into the case, Ashok Tanwar while talking to the mediapersons, said that Delhi Police is great as they took about four months to register an FIR into the incident of attack on me in the national capital in October.

Apparently, there is corruption in Delhi Police and all this was done deliberately, he alleged.

Tanwar also demanded that the accused should now be arrested immediately.

Former CM Hooda and his son, Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda were reportedly booked on Sunday, four months after Hooda and Tanwar’s supporters clashed in New Delhi on October 6.

Tanwar, a Dalit and Haryana Congress chief, had sustained head injuries in the attack.

Following the incident, the National Commission for Schedule Castes had taken note of the case and directed the Delhi Police to register an FIR.

Tanwar has time and again accused Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his supporters of attacking him and involving in a planned conspiracy to kill him in national capital.

The two-time Bhupinder Singh Hooda had however termed the attack as party’s internal matter and workers’ clash.

The clash which had also injured more than a dozen Congress workers had taken place during Congress’ vice president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Bhairon temple to end his month-long Kisan Yatra in October.

The incident had also led to a division among the dalit leaders in the party unit with the MlAs belonging to the dalit community and close to Hooda, asking Tanwar not to make it an issue about caste.

Former Union Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, who was appointed by Sonia Gandhi to probe the attack on Tanwar has reportedly given a clean chit to Hooda on this issue while the report submitted by him to the party high command has not been made public yet.

After this, Tanwar had however claimed that these reports are manipulated and the culprits will be punished.

While the Congress general secretary and party’s Haryana incharge, Kamal Nath had recently directed the state party unit to stay united, the party continues to struggle due to intense infighting between two factions headed by Hooda and Tanwar.

Hooda and Tanwar have been at loggerheads for a long time and the bickering had escalated after the Congress was voted out of power in the state with Tanwar holding Hooda directly responsible for the party’s drubbing.

After the party workers clash in New Delhi last year when Tanwar had sustained injuries, the MlAs, owing allegiance to former Chief Minister had made it clear to the party high command that they will not attend any party meeting convened by Tanwar.
